Spina Bifida Awareness: Kumaka's Story

Today we get to meet Kumaka!!!

This darling boy and his family live just a few hours away from us, I hope someday to get to meet them all in person, but until then, here are some words from his mom, Tracy:

At nineteen weeks we had our ultrasound....fifth child....we already had four boys....we were kind of hoping it was a girl....instead we found we were having a "fetus with a neural tube defect called Spina Bifida, two clubbed feet and hydrocephalus".  Oh by the way...it's a boy!
On December 20,  we had our beautiful child....
We were so scared....there were so many variables....I worried a LOT the first year...and took my sweet boy to a LOT of doctor's appointments.
Kumaka has dealt with a ton in his almost five years of life....3 shunt revisions.....about a million UTI's......four surgeries on one foot and three on the other...a MACE procedure to help with bowels.  Many nights in the hospital.... pneumonia....aspiration....
it's funny how the doctors told me all about what could be....
and no one told me what WOULD be.....
Kumaka is the most adorable four year old ever...he has the biggest spirit...his smile will light up a room....he is determined....and funny as could be....he's the biggest flirt on the planet...and we are truly blessed to call him "son".  I wish instead of hearing about all of the what ifs someone would have told me to enjoy my pregnancy...because his spirit will fill the world!  :)

Man I love this kid!! Thank you Tracy for sharing your sweet boy with the world!

Okay... and you thought the pictures and the words from Kumaka's dear mom were great? Better get our tissues out, because this video is AMAZING.... and if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye there is something wrong with you! Please, take 5 minutes out of your day and watch this!
